Satellite Radio Services: What you get for your money. Posted By : Tymon Hytem-5496

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

Satellite Radio Service is provided by two agencies namely Sirius and XM. Sirius was previously known as CD Radio, and has headquarters in New York City and offers its satellite radio services in Canada and Unites States of America. Sirius offers over 120 channels of programming, including 60 different music channels of rock, jazz, rap, county, classical, and Latin etc. World-class sports, news, and entertainment channels are around fifty in number. The satellite radio service is totally commercial free. Also the listener can enjoy live performances of their favorite artists. The satellite radio provides a variety of high quality programming through a subscription based service for low-cost portable radios which receive signals via satellites. The repeaters used in the circuit are used to connect multiple radio receivers to one antenna using technology that is wire free or wireless. Repeaters have a transmitter, an antenna, and a power adapter.

All these equipments are easy to setup. By usage of repeater user can enjoy XM programming even in the interior environments without any direct reception of signals through satellites. The signal repeater system has two parts namely a repeater which is placed in a location with satellite access, and the repeater antenna which is plugged into tuner of the satellite receiver equipment. The antenna of the repeater can be placed up to seventy five feet from the repeater. Another benefit is that it does not require any power supply. All the antennas which are placed within its range are fed by the repeater. The repeater which is wireless operates in the frequency range of nine hundred mega hertz. The signal is received by the transmitter in one room and then transmitted to the antenna which is placed in another room which connects to satellite radio. A tuner which is totally dedicated to satellite radio is considered as all in one solution and is widely used to listen to the favorite satellite radio programs when moving in a vehicle. Radio tuner is compatible with both the SIRIUS and XM satellite radios.

The tuner receives the satellite signal from an antenna mounted on the vehicles roof or outside home, and then sends stereo placed in home or inside the vehicle. Easy to use and install satellite radios are used as there are no wires or docking stations/cradles involved and these tuners can be used in cars and homes. A user can access full services of commercial-free music channels, sports coverage including NBA, NFL, NHL, news, uncensored talks, weather, and many more by buying a dedicated satellite radio. A satellite radio features liquid crystal display to show channel-name, artist information, song title, sports teams and scores, and other related information. A signal strength indicator is also present which helps in positioning the antenna at the right place that is in the right direction.

Radio from the beginning to Online radio Posted By : rory McLeod

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

Radio is the wireless transmission of signals, by modulation of electromagnetic waves with frequencies below those of visible light. Electromagnetic radiation travels by means of oscillating electromagnetic fields that pass through the air and the vacuum of space. It does not require a medium of transport. Information is carried by systematically changing some property of the radiated waves, such as their amplitude or their frequency. When radio waves pass an electrical conductor, the oscillating fields induce an alternating current in the conductor. This can be detected and transformed into sound or other signals that carry information.

The word ‘radio’ is used to describe this phenomenon, and radio transmissions are classed as radio frequency emissions.

Originally, radio or radioteleography was called ‘wireless telegraphy’, which was shortened to ‘wireless’. The prefix radio- in the sense of wireless transmission was first recorded in the word radioconductor, coined by the French physicist Edouard Branly in 1897 and based on the verb to radiate (in Latin “radius” means “spoke of a wheel, beam of light, ray”). ‘Radio’ as a noun is said to have been coined by advertising expert Waldo Warren (White 1944). The word appears in a 1907 article by Lee de Forest, was adopted by the United States Navy in 1912 and became common by the time of the first commercial broadcasts in the United States in the 1920s. (The noun ‘broadcasting’ itself came from an agricultural term, meaning ’scattering seeds’.) The term was then adopted by other languages in Europe and Asia, although British Commonwealth countries retained the term ‘wireless’ until the mid-20th century. In Japanese, the term ‘wireless’ is the basis for the term ‘radio wave’ although the term for the device that listens to radio waves is literally ‘device for receiving sounds’.

Nowadays, the radio has become a powerful tool to communicate and broadcast all over the world. It is not as popular as the TV but it still is important among the media and now with online radio, it is even easier to listen to it.

Free Radio Stations Are The Way To Go Posted By : A Aldama

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

Today are slowly becoming mainstream media. Before were looked down upon by many. were primarily used by the poor and anti-government militia groups as a way to get their message out. Today are primarily used for the same thing. The only difference today is the causes may not be as serious. As many small bands use to get their foot in the door.

Today we also have satellite radio which is an excellent service but it is not a free radio station in one sense. And in one sense it is a free radio station. Now it is not a free radio station because in order to have the service you must pay a monthly fee. But it is also a free radio station because it contains no advertising on the radio channels. So it just primarily depends on how you are looking at it. Another great thing about satellite radio is the ability to choose the type of music you want.

With you get all everything satellite radio offers and then some. Imagine being able to program what bands you want to hear from or songs. Now yes you can do the same with your Ipod but you must pay or risk having the government come after you. With you can do all of the following for free. You could even DJ your own show using .

How Satellite Radios Function Posted By : Tymon Hytem-5496

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

Numerous people has a question in mind that how does satellite radio work? Answer to this question lies is that we should first understand how satellite how analog radio works. Standard analog radio works by broadcasting the radio frequency to local transmitters and then on to the listener. New and most advanced satellite radio works similarly but instead of using stationary transmitters with limited range to broadcast their media to the people, they use mobile Satellites.

Orbiters are equipment that orbit the earth and can pick up and transmit signals globally instead of just in a limited area. Orbiter bounces the transmitted radio frequency off of the satellite and out to the millions of satellite radio listeners around the world. It has increased the satellite radio industry and has made satellite radio a staple media avenue in our everyday lives. A layman, who is interested in satellite radio purchases, will go for the best. A device like satellite radio whether it be stationary or portable, we purchase the desired satellite radio service from whichever service provider offers us the best variety of programming. Formerly the subscription to this service is established, the device is programmed into a database of devices that are allowed to receive specific radio transmissions from specific satellites. Database entry then sends a signal to the device to decrypt satellite frequencies, providing the user with audible satellite radio reception. Numerous service providers may use different marketing gimmicks to gain a customer base, claiming to have better coverage or what not. But, when it comes down to it, The only difference which could be considered is the limitations put on the satellite radio by the databases and what programs and filters any individual service provider may be using to limit the access their customers have to the satellite radio feed.

Almost all service providers offer special features, or special programming which is solely controlled by their databases and the servers they use to transmit the satellite radio feed. But the service provider never explains to the customer the answer to the question of how does satellite radio work? If subscription to the satellite is not paid, just as with any utility nowadays, the service provider may then send a signal to the device, removing its rights to decrypt satellite radio transmissions. Numerous technologies in the past, prior to the radio technology have used satellites to widen the spectrum of their services, such as telecommunications such as cell phones. Logic of each service is relatively the same in the fact that a person uses a device such as a satellite radio, or cell phone, to request a transmission through a service provider’s database. When subscription is paid for the transmission is allowed from the satellite to the user giving us satellite capable radio devices.

Just How Many Different Types of Satellites are There? Posted By : Tymon Hytem-5496

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

Line of sight propagation requires that the sending and receiving antennas be locked on to each other’s location at all times that is one antenna must have the other in sight. A satellite that moves faster or slower than the earth’s rotation is useful only for short periods of time. To ensure that the satellite has constant communication, it must move at the same speed as the earth. This allows it to seem to remain fixed above a certain spot, when in actuality it is moving at the same speed as the earth.

We can call such satellites geosynchronous. Because orbital speed is based on distance from the planet, only one orbit can be geosynchronous. This orbit occurs at the equatorial plane and is approximately twenty two thousand miles from the surface of the earth. The only downside to the geosynchronous satellite is that only one cannot cover the whole earth. It will take many to be able to cover the entire surface of the earth.

One satellite in orbit has line of sight contact with a vast number of stations but the curvature of the earth still keeps much of the planet out of sight. It takes a minimum of three satellites equidistant from each other in geosynchronous earth orbit to provide full global transmission. Medium earth orbit satellites are positioned between the two Van Allen belts. A satellite at this orbit takes approximately six hours to circle the earth.

One example of medium earth orbit satellites system is the global positioning system orbiting at an altitude about eighteen thousand kilometers above the earth. The system consists of twenty four satellites and is used for land and sea navigation to provide time and locations for vehicles and ships. The global positioning system is not used for communication. It is becoming need of time to assure one’s exact position in space and time in a authentic way. This can be achieved by use of satellites.

Satellites are radio navigation system, which are launched by the various space Agencies. These satellites are worldwide system which ensures reliable service with the current Global positioning system. Science is making advancements everyday. Now a day daily new things are invented. Satellite radio navigation technology is one of the advanced technologies in the market these days. This technology is based on the emission of signals from satellites indicating the time extremely accurately. In this way a person can easily determine his or her position. Positioning of any stationary as well as moving object can be located with satellite radio navigation system. Global positioning system is based on principle of triangulation. Low earth orbit satellites have polar orbits. The altitude is between five hundred to two thousand kilometers with a rotation period of ninety to one twenty minutes. The satellite has a speed of twenty thousand to twenty five thousand kilometers per hour. A low earth orbit system usually has a cellular type of access similar to the cellular telephone system.

Finding Antique Radios That Are In Prime Working Condition Posted By : Muna wa Wanjiru

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

People have loved listening to music, stories and the current events that occur around them from tales told by traveling bands of people, bards, anyone who is knowledgeable about those matters. As civilizations became more advanced the methods of communication changed. The predecessor to our modern radios - antique radios - allowed our parents and grandparents the ability to hear news from distant places, stories and even music.

These antique radios are all but unseen today. You can however still find a few of these antique radios in various places like garage sales, second hand dealers, antique shops, museums and old radio parts shops.

While most of these radios will not be in pristine condition, you may find a few that are in prime working condition. These might need a bit of a tune-up or replacement parts added here and there but for the most part you will find they can still deliver the goods.

As these antique radios are somewhat hard to find in mint condition you should expect to pay a fairly high price for one that is in total working mint condition. The different varieties of these old radios ensured that people in those times had a choice of radio styles to fit their budget and their home environment.

While you will see that almost all of our radios are on the compact and portable side the antique radios of yesteryear are large sized models that you could only move with the aid of movers. Even though these antique radios are quite bulky to move they are still desired pieces of history.

Now when you are looking to buy antique radios there are various items that should be looked at before you make a purchase. The first item that is important is that of the price. Even if you like how an old radio looks if you can’t afford it there is no point in looking at this radio any longer. You should also check to see if the antique radio is still in perfect to fine working order.

You may not feel that this is necessary but without testing the radio out you may have a very badly damaged radio on your hands. Once you have tested and looked at all of the factors which may prevent you from buying your old antique radio you need to have it delivered to your home. If the radio is not that big then you can see about taking it home yourself. Buying antique radios will provide you with living piece of history that you can pass down the generations.

Discover The Benefits of Sirius Satellite Radio Posted By : Jon Arnold

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

Sirius Satellite Radio is a technical marvel; using a series of three satellites that use a highly inclined elliptical orbit, Sirius Satellite Radio broadcasts from the satellite directly to the receiver on the ground. The signals are completely digital, giving CD audio (or often times better) grade sound quality.

To get Sirius Satellite Radio, you need to have a compatible receiver, and an antenna pointed straight up at the sky; the three satellite constellation means you don’t need to have the antenna pointed straight to the southern horizon (though it does mean that, as the satellites shift position during the day, people who use a fixed installation may need to nudge the antenna direction a bit; some rigs have automatic antenna rotators to track the satellites even.) You also need to pay a subscription fee - though a $500 fee will give you lifetime access. You also need to pay a small fee to activate the radio.

In addition to audiophile grade sound, Sirius Satellite Radio offers exclusive content offered nowhere else. It is the only satellite radio network that offers every NFL game, for example, or Yankees Entertainment System. All Sirius Satellite Radio broadcasts have content encoding broadcast with it; this means you can look at the digital display on your radio and see the name of the song being broadcast, which makes it easier to look it up to buy a copy of it later.

Sirius Satellite Radio divides its content into subchannels called streams - there are currently over 160 of them, and more on the way; this makes it possible to find exactly what you’re looking for - be it Martha Stewart or Howard Stern, or as previously mentioned, the best sports radio on radio.

One of Sirius Satellite Radio’s innovations in providing broadcasting excellence is its hiring of people (like Steve Van Zandt) to executive produce audio shows; these can range from streams that offer only a single artist’s catalog (through albums, interviews, recorded concert footage) to interesting vertical slices of the broadcast music field, like twenty different stations providing different mixes of CD audio-grade rock and roll.

Sirius Satellite Radio also has co-op deals to broadcast talk radio simultaneously nation wide, and to bring some regional radio stations to a nationwide audience, and the packages keep growing, while the subscription fee remains the same. If you want to hear the best radio on radio, Sirius Satellite Radio is the best way to go.

Most new cars sold today have as standard equipment or as a minor cost upgrade the ability to have Sirius satellite radio. A car is a great place for this especially if you are driving across town or even across the country. You can tune in to your favorite Sirius radio station and listen to it throughout your journey, instead of trying to re-adjust your radio to pick up a new station as you start to leave the broadcast area of your traditional radio stations.

If you have not experienced Sirius satellite radio yet, you are missing out on something great, especially if you spend significant amount of time in your car. You deserve the opportunity to give this a try today and make your driving more enjoyable, and then when you get home, you can continue listening to your favorite Sirius radio station at home too from your home unit.

Digital Audio Receiver - Enter The New Age Posted By : Richard Jones

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

Digital audio receivers are a fabulous piece of equipments for any audio enthusiast, fan of music or gadget fanatic. Move that music sitting on your computer into the rest of your home.

You don’t want to be tied down to your pc just so you can listen to your favourite music. Also, those PC speakers don’t really do it justice if you have a hi-fi setup in your home. A digital audio receiver is an ideal solution for getting that music collection off your PC into the household via a quality piece of audio equipment.

Whether the music is downloaded, ripped from CDs or even created by you, if you’re one of the growing number of bedroom musicians that have sprung up since PCs became powerful enough and cheap enough for us all to make music with them, a digital audio receiver brings it to the living room. Now there really is no need for that CD collection that sits gathering dust in the age of music over the Internet.

The digital audio receiver does its magic by being connected to your home network. Different models offer different methods of connection, but they’re all essentially the same. Some connect to your wi-fi hub, others are physically connected with network cable, some are even connected to the phone socket, for those of you with a home PNA network (Home Phoneline Networking Alliance).

A numebr of digital audio receivers come packaged with software that you need to setup on your home computer. This software basically allows you to choose music from your collection as it knows where each file is located on your machine.

When a track is selected, the server software loads the audio and then “streams” it to the digital audio receiver. Streaming is just a technical term for passing the data to the digital audio receiver fast enough to allowing the digital audio receiver to begin playing instantly, without running out of music. This means that although the audio has to be moved across the network, it is surprisingly fast. No need to wait for the entire song to be downloaded before playing.

If you’ve ever got tired of constantly changing over CD’s on your normal audio setup, then this solution is perfect as everything is contained in one place. There are other benefits too, such as being able to see at a glance which music track is playing as well as who it is by.

A huge benefit of using a digital audio receiver is the ability to save your entire collection at any one time. You can literally get thousands of tracks onto a single DVD disc and a hard drive will allow you to store even more.

All Sports Channel A Winner on SIRIUS Posted By : Bob Maines

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

If you haven’t noticed yet, Sirius Satellite Radio added another channel to its programming. Sirius Sports Central is now on Channel 123 and it’s awesome. For all you fans of the Tony Bruno Show, he’s got his own show now on Sirius. This channel was created for those of us who enjoy all types of sports, not just football.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy football season as much as the next guy. Sports Central definitely has its fair share of football news, but occasionally I enjoy switching gears and talking about a different sport, like what’s going on in boxing, what to expect from LeBron James this year, or how many PGA tour victories Tiger now has under his belt. Sirius Radio says this channel will cover “a variety of professional and college sports” and I think that description is right on target.

So back to the Tony Bruno Show - if you are not already familiar with the award-winning Bruno, you should be. His show airs weekdays from 9:00 am-1:00 pm ET. Bruno is one of the best sports talk show hosts alive and has the experience and recognition to back it up. He’s been in the biz for 35+ years and has covered everything from the Super Bowl to the Olympics to the Kentucky Derby. You name it, he’s been there. In addition to Bruno, Sirius Sports Central will broadcast The Arnie Spanier Show, Todd Wright Tonight, and the David Stein Show.

My favorite part about the new Sports channel are the new programs Sirius created in addition to the exclusive programming that already exists. So if you like listening to the college sports show, “Rivals Radio,” then you’ll enjoy “The Sirius College Football Coaches Show.” And if you like the sports business talk show with marketing and collectibles experts Brandon Steiner and Andrew Bogusch then you might also enjoy the “ABC’s of Sports,” a caller oriented show about making sports more enjoyable for competitors and spectators.

One of the coolest programs is Sirius Fight Club hosted by Randy Gordon. Gordon is the former Chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission and former Editor-in-Chief of The Ring magazine. So all you fight fans will be happy to know that Gordon is covering everything that is going on in boxing and mixed martial arts. Sirius Fight Club isn’t a secret though, so tell all your buddies it’s okay to talk about it.

SiriusSatellite Radio offers a ton of sports programming including NFL Radio on channel 124, NASCAR Radio on channel 128, and NBA Radio on channel 127 in addition to this new channel. If you’re any kind of sports fan then you’re going to really enjoy Sirius Sports Central Station on Channel 123.

Free Sirius Satellite Radio Is Yours For The Taking From DirecTV And Dish Network Posted By : David Johnson

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

The latest technological advancement to come to radio programming is satellite radio programming from Sirius. Its a whole new way to broadcast and listen to radio and it changes so many things that we have grown accustomed to having with radio programming. The first thing that radio listeners of the past have to go with out with Sirius satellite radio is commercial advertisements, that now come in rapid fire succession on standard radio programming.

This is because Sirius satellite radio is a paid for, subscription radio service, so they dont use radio commercials to generate revenue. You dont have to wonder what it costs to subscribe to Sirius satellite radio, because you get it for free now with your DirecTV or Dish Network TV programming package.

Another great thing about Sirius satellite radio is that it has a separate channel for just about any genre of music you can think of and that includes anything from old gospel to blue grass to heavy metal to old classic country swing and everything in between. Its broadcast from a satellite, so it is out of the jurisdiction of FCC sensors, so there is some very provocative talk programming to be heard on Sirius satellite radio.

The Howard Stern Show can now only be heard on Sirius satellite radio and he is reported to be just as funny and provocative as he has always been. Getting your radio programming from DirecTV or Dish Network is a great way to go, because you only have one service to subscribe to this way and also Dish Network gives you free Sirius satellite radio for your car, truck or RV.

If you are interested in getting it for your RV, then you might be surprised to learn that Dish Network now has a new satellite TV system that is just for RVs and it is called Mobile Dish. Mobile Dish is able to do what no other satellite TV service has been able to do before and that is to deliver satellite TV programming to an RV while it is traveling down the open highway.

It currently has one-hundred channels and Dish Network has plans to add even more channels in the near future. With Sirius satellite radio and Mobile Dish in your RV you are no loner in an entertainment deficit while you are on the road. This also give you access to the weather and news programming on Sirius satellite radio as well as the weather and news programming on Mobile Dish at all times while you are on the road.

Mobile Dish also does away with the cumbersome satellite dish that had to mounted on the roof of an RV and replaces it with a permanently mounted, low profile, state of the art high tech antennae. This new antennae never has to be touched again after it has been installed and it also does way with the constant risk of snags from tree branches. To find out more about Dish Network and the services that they have to offer you can contact them online.
